Tattoo Aftercare
Carefully remove your bandage in 2-4 hours. Wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild hand soap using only the tips of your fingers. Pat dry and leave it alone for the next 24 hours. Do no re-apply bandage.
After 24 hours, apply a very thin layer of ointment/unscented lotion ointment to your tattoo. Repeat this until the tattoo has fully healed (usually 1-2 weeks). The ointment should be barely visible on your tattoo – do not over-do it! Avoid saltwater and chlorinated water for the duration of the healing process. Prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided as well. After healing, a high SPF sun block should always be used when your tattoo will be exposed to the sun for long periods of time. This step will prevent fading. You should also avoid direct contact with pets in the area that you were tattooed until fully-healed. If scabbing should occur (which is normal), DO NOT PICK IT!
If you develop a rash, extreme redness, or severe irritation after using ointment, give us a call and we will suggest an alternative treatment for your new tattoo. This is a rare occurrence, but is not unheard of.
Our artists are highly educated in aftercare procedures for ensuring a comfortable and proficient healing process for everyone who has been tattooed here. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at 804-642-6500 or e-mail us at 138tattoos@gmail.com.
